Hermann Heisig is an artist busy with dance and choreography, based in Berlin.Born 1981 in Leipzig, he started to get involved into contemporary dance in 1997 when taking part the first time in the "best dance solo" competition at euro scene Leipzig Festival.
In the following years and during his studies at die Etage in Berlin he created numerous dance solos in clubs and galleries, and collaborated with several musicians and artists (a.o. Anja Müller, Marina Quesada, Diana Wesser, Brockdorff Klang Labor). In 2007 he participated in ex.e.r.ce 07, a seven month program for choreography at CCN Montpellier under the direction of Mathilde Monnier and Xavier le Roy.
Back in Berlin, Hermann worked as a dancer a.o. for Meg Stuart/ Damaged Goods, Begum Erciyas, Thomas Lehmen, Corinna Harfouch, Martin Nachbar and Martine Pisani.
Hermanns own works evolve from an interest in physically exploring things like Nonsense, involuntary action, self appropriation or automatism. Many times he likes to exchange and collaborate, for instance with Nuno Lucas, Elpida Orfanidou, Pieter Ampe, Anne Zacho Søgaard, Marina Quesada, Gui Garrido, Diana Wesser...
In February 2013 SLAP/STICK, Hermann´s latest solo work, had its premiere in Sophiensaele Berlin. In October 2013 "wir/ nosotros/ vi" was presented in Berlin, Copenhagen and Buenos Aires, a work developed together with Marina Quesada and Anne Zacho Søgaard.
"Instinctively, I'm interested in procedures that get complicated, become a stranger or turninto their opposite. In that sense I follow a sort of paradoxical logic: to deal with dancing in a time of disembodiment. I see choreography as opening a territory, where possible and impossible relationships between humans, spaces, behavior and forms of representation can be negotiated."
